| Worship is the one thing that
God does not possess in and of Himself. It is the 1st of
the 10 commandments. At City At The Cross, we believe that
the book of Psalms reveals the pattern for worship. Psalm
149 commands, “Praise the Lord! Sing to the
Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of
the godly ones.” It goes on and teaches us to be
glad and rejoice in our Maker, to praise His name with
dancing and instruments. It is not just something that
happens in our mind or heart, but must be expressed with
our mouth. It is an honor for us as humans to worship and
sing to the Lord. Hebrews 13.15-16 also
explains that worship is a ‘sacrifice’ that
pleases God and must be continuous. It is expressed with
thanksgiving through our words.
The difference between praise and worship
is:
Praise - an operation
of faith that produces an atmosphere where
God is pleased to dwell.
Worship - our response
to His presence after His presence is manifest.
It's not about a certain form, but our response
to the manifest presence of God.
Are we willing to praise God according to
His word or do we just act on behalf of our
circumstances or our experiences?
God is worthy to be praise, therefore, we
praise.
Worship, above all, is a heart issue.
John 4:24-25 teaches that
because God is spirit, God the Father seeks
for true worshippers who worship Him in spirit
and truth.
David is the person who established the worship
system in the Bible that God was pleased with,
therefore we look to him as the pattern for
true Biblical worship. He was a man after God’s
own heart.
Key Principles of a Davidic
Heart (A Worshipper’s Heart)
1. He had a heart after God
2. He had a teachable Spirit – Psalm
139.23, “Search me, O God and know my
heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts;
and see if there be any hurtful way in me,
and lead me in the everlasting way.”
3. He was a God Pleaser
The goal is to touch God’s
heart each time we worship together.
We corporately began on earth
and end in His presence
God manifests Himself when and where He is welcome
God is enthroned and in turn we are blessed by and in His presence
Worship is the Goal of our lives |
