Psalm 33.11: “The
counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His
heart from generation
to generation.”
In this passage of Scripture the inner working of God
and His purpose is revealed. It is purpose and intention
of God’s heart that His plans continue from generation
to generation. All throughout the Bible God’s purposes
in every time and season flow in and through the life
of each generation. Each generation is called and equipped
by the Lord Himself to fulfill His plans in their generation.
The Bible tells us that David served the purpose of
God in his generation and was a man after God’s
own heart.
Acts 13.36: “For David, after he had served the
purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and
was laid among his fathers…”
Generational purpose and serving mark the shape and
configuration of one that is after the heart of God.
This identification with the heart of God wherein the
purpose of God extends from generation to generation
is called Generational Transfer.
Generational Transfer
Generational Transfer necessarily involves the impartation
of God’s will and intent for each generation
to each generation. This means ministering to children.
One of the primary ministries of the Church is to transfer
to the next generation all that is needed for them
to be equipped to fulfill the purpose of God in their
generation. Generational Transfer is the key to the
long-term success of any family and Church. How we
transfer the “stuff of life” to the next
generation determines and defines the success of that
people.
Whenever and wherever Generational Transfer has not
occurred accurately, there has been a default and retreat
from the purposes of God in that generation.
Psalm 78.9-11: “The sons of Ephraim were archers
equipped with bows, yet they turned back in the day of
battle. They did not keep the covenant of God, and refused
to walk in His law and they forgot His deeds and His
miracles that He had shown them.”
This passage of Scripture describes the failure of Generational
Transfer in the sons of Ephraim who, although they were
equipped with bows, turned back in the day of battle.
There was no Generational Transfer of the truth of God
and His covenant and the result was a retreat and backward
movement in the time of their destiny.
The preceding verses in the above passage reveals to
us that the key to Generational Transfer is the teaching
of truth and knowledge to our children and then even
to the generation to come.
Psalm 78.3-8: “We have heard and known, and our
fathers have told us. We will not conceal them from their
children, but tell to the generation to come the praises
of the Lord, and His strength and His wondrous works
that He has done...that they should teach them to their
children, that the generation to come might know, even
the children yet to be born, that they may arise and
tell them to their children, that they should put their
confidence in God, and not forget the works of God, but
keep His commandments. And not be like their fathers,
a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that
did not prepare its heart, and whose spirit was not faithful
to God.”
This accurate transfer to the next generation guarantees
the coming into reality of the purposes and plans of
the heart of God from generation to generation. G2 is
the vehicle by which we guarantee this Generational Transfer
here at City at the Cross.
G2 is more than a “Sunday School” program,
it is the means whereby the grace of God present in this
generation can be imparted to the next generation of
young men and women of God. It is our desire to see the ‘counsel
of the Lord stand forever’ and the ‘plans
of His heart from generation to generation’.
Here are some of the distinct characteristics of the
Impartational Model of G2.
The Impartational Model releases the grace in each Instructor/Assistant
to flow from Christ through them to each child in each
encounter.
The Impartational Model is flexible and fluid enough
to customize to each child that which the Lord is saying
and doing within the overall Church setting.
The Impartational Model focuses on early-age discipleship
which releases the grace and call of God into the next
generation of men and women.
The Impartational Model prevents stagnate and fossilized
methods and means of equipping the children of City at
the Cross in that it requires constant evaluation and
integration.
The Impartational Model triggers and develops learning
via all avenues of each child’s learning processes
of mind, heart, spirit, and body through interaction
and artistic expression.
Biblical examples of the Impartational Model of children.
The Life of Samuel 1 Samuel
The Life of Jesus Luke 2.39-52
The Life of Timothy 2 Timothy 1.5
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of G2 is: “To impart children of all
ages the grace necessary to become and be all that God
has called them to do and be from generation to generation.”
Philosophy of Ministry
G2 is built on the Impartational Model of ministry to
children rather than the traditional Sunday School
Model. In the Sunday School Model, teachers and children
follow a set yearly curriculum written and designed
by a ministry not related to City at the Cross. The
Sunday School Model while being thorough with regards
to informational content does not facilitate a flexible
and interactive format which takes into account all
of the various factors which enter into the release
of the grace of God into a young person’s life.
In the Impartational Model children are not only ‘taught’ Bible
stories, but the reality that lies therein is imparted
to them through Spirit-filled interaction and discipleship.
Focus is primarily on the development of spiritual identity
and skills needed for success in later years. The phrase “spiritual
impartation” means: “The release of the grace
of God into the life of another person from which is
possessed within the spiritual reality of the one imparting.” |
