Doorkeepers
Meetings: During Sunday service @ 9AM
Leader(s): Dan Pettit
People: For those who would like to serve
Service is one of the greatest calls that our Lord requires from us.

In Matthew 20: 26-28, Jesus states

“… whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

In this passage, the Lord states that if you want to be great in God’s Kingdom, learn to be the servant of all. The term servant in verse 26 is translated as:

- “A servant, minister,
- ‘To render any kind of service.’”

And Jesus’ reason that he came to serve is translated:
“To minister, cared, contributing…support, do the serving, take care,”

Vincent’s Word Study says the word servant:

“Represents a servant, not in his relation, but in his activity.”

This ‘activity’ is what the DoorKeepers ministry is all about.

Throughout the Bible, the term DoorKeeper is defined from a primary root shamar meaning ‘to keep, watch, preserve’. Sometimes DoorKeepers were referred to as ‘GateKeepers’ or ‘Porters’ as well. Although the terms are interchangeable only a few times, it’s interesting that they both are defined as ‘Guardians’.

The purpose of the DoorKeeper is to serve!

According to Unger’s Bible Dictionary, the DoorKeeper’s duty was thought to be to guard the door of the tabernacle so as to prevent anyone from coming carelessly to the ark. Persons were appointed to keep the street door of houses, and these were sometimes women.

More than simply another smiling face or a warm handshake, ourdesire is to serve you! Won’t you come and join us?
